It’s often hard for tourists to comprehend that Key West actually is a community with families raising children here. Where do they live they ask? Well, we live all over, but the majority of Key West families live in New Town.

New Town runs from North Roosevelt Blvd. to South Roosevelt Blvd just north of the “Flagler Ave. canal”, Sunset Dr (9th St.) to AIA. Riviera canal runs right down Sunrise Drive and Riviera Dr. This is the only canal in Key West where center consoles and sailboats that draw no more than 3′, have access to the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean. There is also a free public boat ramp located at the end of Riviera Dr. and 11th Street. City ordinances do not allow boats to be stored on the city right-of-way streets and no boats are allowed in Old Town properties. However, you are able to store your boat on your property in Mid or New Town. Trailering your boat is an affordable option compared to marina dockage.

Upper Eagle Avenue and the upper end of Flagler Avenue along the canal are quite prestigious addresses within New Town Key West. Typical construction in New Town is CBS (concrete block structure) and the majority of streets are relatively uncongested. Many sports complexes are located on Kennedy Dr. such as little league baseball and softball, junior football league, soccer, and adult softball. Here is a great reference for all youth sports in Key West. Winn Dixie and both Publix grocery stores are in New Town, as well The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority. Sigsbee Charter School (K-8) and Poinciana Elementary are the two schools in this area of Key West.
